A very important aspect of building fitness is repeatability. Even at its fastest, physical progress is slow. You can’t make a big, lasting change overnight with regard to your body. You can, however, stack up seemingly small wins day in and day out over the course of weeks/months/years/decades that will have you improving exponentially over the mid to long term.

The most important workout is always the one you will do tomorrow.

Reject the urge to dial up the intensity massively today at the expense of tomorrow. Instead, create a habit and then improve incrementally each time you engage. To paraphrase the great strength coach Jim Wendler, if you bench press 200lbs your goal is not to bench 300lbs. It is to bench 205, then 210, 215, 220, etc.

The most important workout is always the one you will do tomorrow. Don’t ruin tomorrow’s workout with today’s. Focus on doing it well for a long time, not doing it great for a week, or a month, or even this year. Be the evergreen man that retains his virility into his old age.
